Atomenergoproekt is the general contractor for designing and construction of Novovoronezh NPP-2.
The construction is conducted as per the AES-2006 design developed by the company, for which the VVER-1200 reactor plant is used. The AES-2006 design is the standardized nuclear power plant design that embodied the latest achievements of the Russian engineering. It is based on technical solutions of the AES-92 design. On the 24th of April, 2007, the Atomenergoproekt, as the AES-92 general designer has received the certificate of compliance with the European Utilities Requirements (EUR) to NPPs with light-water reactors of a new generation.
Novovoronezh NPP-2 is the prototype nuclear power plant of the new generation AES-2006 design with VVER-1200.
The Customer of the works for design and construction of the Novovoronezh NPP-2 is JSC Rosenergoatom Concern.
The design is developed by the leading Russian organizations: general designer of the Reactor plant — JSC ОKB Gidropress, scientific leader of the reactor and nuclear power plant — RRC Kurchatov Institute.
The equipment with a long manufacturing cycle (reactor plant equipment, turbine building equipment, core catcher, steam generators, etc.) was procured from the Russian companies such as JSC Power Machines, Energomash-Atommash Ltd, JSC EMAliance-Аtom, JSC AEM-technologies, JSC ZiO-Podolsk, etc.
The construction and erection activities at the NPP site involves many sub-contractors whose personnel by more than 65% consists of Voronezh specialists.
In 2007, Atomenergoproekt was awarded the general contact for designing and construction of Novovoronezh NPP-2, Units 1 and 2, in the process of open tender.
Activities at site started in June 2007 with vertical site grading for the future NPP.
June 24, 2008 — JSC Atomenergoproekt commenced the main stage of NV NPP-2 construction — casting the reactor building raft of Unit 1. Novovoronezh NPP-2 is the first plant constructed according to the program of large-scale NPP construction in Russia.
July 12, 2009 — Unit 2 is founded. First pour of concrete in the reactor building raft of Unit 2 ushered the beginning of serial construction of nuclear power plants in Russia.
Commissioning of new power plants will give a powerful thrust for the development of economy not only of Voronezh district but of the most parts of Central Russia. Today the construction of Novovoronezh NPP-2 is the largest investment project in the Central-Chernozem area.
